In the third quarter of 2022, there were more than 1.2 million freelancers working in the Dutch labor force, an increase of 127,000 from the corresponding time in 2021. According to the national statistics agency CBS, the growth was most pronounced among those employed in the care sector, including social workers, psychologists, and medical professionals. The number of persons with regular jobs increased by 144,000 in the third quarter, as well. According to CBS, just one-third of them were on temporary or flexible contracts, while the other two-thirds had permanent employment.
As the working population surpassed 10 million for the first time in November, the official unemployment rate in the Netherlands decreased marginally to 3.6%, down from 364,000 to 364,000. Last month, 145,000 people applied for jobless benefits overall.
